Your $99 donation to the Yak Program of Project Tibet is desperately needed by Tibetan families.

Nomadic Tibetans rely on yaks in the same way Native Americans once relied on the buffalo. Many of life's necessities in remote areas of Tibet come directly from yak's milk to produce yogurt, cheese and butter; wool to produce blankets and clothing; hides to make tents and shoes; dung to be burned as fuel for heating and cooking; and meat to be eaten for nutrition.

But severe winters over the past two years have devastated Tibetan yak herds, endangering Tibetan Nomadic families who typically need one yak per family member in order to survive in the nation's remotest regions. The Jinpa Project in West Nangchen, Tibet reports that over one million yaks were recently lost in the Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture alone, forcing that region's Tibetan Nomadic people to rely on government and charitable foundation aid.

Project Tibet has organized a relief campaign aimed at supplying these Tibetan families with the yaks they need for survival. Your $99 donation will subsidize the complete cost of one 800-lb yak for a Tibetan Nomad family.

To commemorate your participation in the Yak program, you or your family's name will be added to a "Yak Plaque" to be permanently displayed at Project Tibet's Santa Fe offices. Please join Project Tibet in its efforts to assist Tibet's Nomadic people and add you name to the Yak Plaque. $99 will purchase a yak, however any donation will help.
